The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of Chief Superintendent Modestus Ojiebe, who was abducted on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The incident occurred on Sunday when Ojiebe’s vehicle broke down near the Dei-Dei Police Barracks in Abuja.
According to reports from sources, including counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Ojiebe and his wife were attacked by assailants who robbed them of their mobile phones and ATM cards. Upon discovering Ojiebe’s police identification, the attackers forcibly took him away in their vehicle, leaving his wife and their car behind at the scene.
In a statement issued by Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, it was announced that Ojiebe had been rescued and reunited with his family. The prompt response from Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dawaki was highlighted as crucial; he quickly mobilized his patrol team and alerted all police checkpoints as well as key entry and exit points into the FCT. This swift action facilitated the successful recovery of the officer later that same night.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the suspects who abandoned Ojiebe and fled into a bush area in Garaku, Nasarawa State. Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the police emergency line at 08032003913.
