Aviation crisis: Truce imminent as Keyamo meets stakeholders

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is convening a crucial meeting with stakeholders today to address the ongoing strike by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) workers.

The meeting aims to find a truce and resolve the dispute that has disrupted flight operations across Nigeria.

Key stakeholders, including NiMet management and union leaders, are expected to attend the meeting to discuss the workers’ demands and find a mutually beneficial solution.

The strike has prompted some airlines, such as Air Peace, to suspend flights due to safety concerns, while others like United Nigeria Airlines and ValueJet continue to operate with cautionary notes.

The lack of weather reports from NiMet has raised concerns about the safety of flight operations, particularly during the current rainy season.

The workers’ demands include better welfare packages, timely promotions, and improved working conditions.

The meeting will likely focus on finding a solution that addresses these demands while also ensuring the smooth operation of flight services.

Outcome of the meeting will determine the fate of flight operations in Nigeria and the overall impact on the aviation industry.

If a resolution is reached, flights could resume normally, but if the stalemate persists, more airlines might join Air Peace in suspending operations.

The meeting is expected to be intense, with both parties likely to engage in detailed discussions to find a way forward.

The aviation industry is watching closely, as a resolution would bring much-needed relief to passengers and airlines alike.
