FAAN reopens Enugu airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025.

This is sequel to the completion of the emergency runway repairs.

The airport was closed on April 18, 2025, due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway, prompting FAAN to undertake emergency repairs.

According to Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway has been cleared for landings and takeoffs by engineers working with FAAN.

FAAN has expressed appreciation to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the closure.

The authority also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the closure, assuring the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.

The initial plan was to conclude the work before reopening on May 6, 2025, but the repairs were completed ahead of schedule, allowing for the airport’s reopening on April 28, 2025.

With the runway repairs completed, flight operations are set to resume, providing relief to passengers and airlines affected by the temporary closure.
