The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has launched a two-week on-the-job training program for Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel in its Department of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Power Systems.
The training is being held simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, covering all NAMA facilities managed by the department.
According to a release signed by the agency’s director of public affairs and consumers protection, Musa Abdulahi, the comprehensive program aims to equip participants with practical skills in maintaining and installing critical infrastructure, including Automatic Mains Failure, Automatic Voltage Regulators, Uninterruptible Power Supply, and Solar Power Systems.
Trainees, according to him, will work closely with experienced supervisors to gain hands-on experience in welding, air-conditioning installation, and maintenance of solar power systems, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance of various equipment.
NAMA’s Managing Director, Engr Farouk Ahmed Umar, says the training is a key component of the agency’s commitment to increasing the capacity of its technical and operational staff, ensuring that NAMA’s communication, navigation, and surveillance infrastructure operates seamlessly and efficiently in line with International Civil Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices.
The training, he said, will enable participants to acquire practical experiences in technical skills such as welding, installation of air-conditioning compressors, and maintenance of solar power systems, as well as equipment maintenance, including preventive and corrective maintenance of UPS, AVRs, inverters, and overhauling of generating sets.
Additionally, participants will learn about system installation, including installation and maintenance of solar power systems and electrical installations.
Engr Farouk expressed optimism that the knowledge gained by participants will have a positive impact on the agency’s operations, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s airspace.
The training reflects NAMA’s proactive posture under its current leadership, demonstrating the agency’s sustained commitment to aviation safety and compliance with global standards.
By investing in the development of its technical staff, NAMA is ensuring that its infrastructure is well-maintained and operates at optimal levels, which is critical to the safety of air travel in Nigeria.
