Arik Air flight diverts to Benin due to engine issue

An Arik Air flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt was diverted to Benin Airport today after the crew reported a loud bang on the left engine.

The Boeing 737-700 aircraft, registration 5N MJF, safely landed with 80 passengers on board, and no injuries were reported.

“Arik Air apologises to our customers for any inconveniences, and restates its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards at all times,” said Adebanji Ola, PR and Communications Manager of Arik Air.

The airline has arranged for an alternative aircraft to transport the passengers to their final destination in Port Harcourt.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar occurrence in 2018 when an Arik Air flight aborted takeoff in Benin due to a technical issue.

The airline has assured customers of its commitment to safety, citing its strict policy to avoid flying in inclement weather conditions.
