The Sultanate Council of Sokoto has urged Muslims across Nigeria to be on the lookout for the new moon.
The sighting of the moon signals the start of Ramadan.
This corresponds to 29 Sha’aban 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.
Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, emphasized the importance of moon sighting in determining the commencement of Ramadan.
Those who spot the crescent are encouraged to report their observations to the nearest District or Village Head, who will then communicate with the Sultan of Sokoto.
To facilitate swift reporting, the Sultanate Council has provided dedicated phone lines, including 08037157100, 08066303077, and others.
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has also called on Muslims to search for the crescent, and if sighted, the first day of Ramadan will be declared on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
