Ganduje, new FAAN Board Chair
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Governor of Kano State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by President Bola Tinubu.
This appointment, according to the federal government, is expected to bring stability and progress to Nigeria’s aviation sector, leveraging Ganduje’s extensive experience in leadership and governance.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony of FAAN Board members, charging them to be proactive, transparent, and dedicated to their mandate.
Keyamo emphasised the critical role of the Board in shaping the future of Nigeria’s aviation industry, prioritising safety and security, promoting sustainable practices, and putting passengers at the center of operations.
Ganduje emphasised the importance of understanding the principles of excellence and ensuring FAAN’s services meet international standards.
He assured the Aviation Minister that FAAN would prioritise effective institutional governance, compliance with regulatory limits, and adherence to international standards.
He also highlighted the need for a positive attitude among stakeholders, recognising that excellent services and infrastructure can be undermined by poor attitude.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, welcomed the newly inaugurated Board Members and emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to drive the strategic agenda of the President.
Kuku charged the Board Members to focus on institutional governance, ensuring FAAN operates efficiently and effectively, and providing an improved passenger experience.
With Ganduje at the helm, the FAAN Board is poised to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria’s aviation sector, including infrastructure deficits, regulatory issues, and safety concerns.
The appointment is seen as a step towards restoring the industry’s reputation and promoting economic growth ¹.
