Nigeria carrier, Air Peace has temporarily disrupted its scheduled Lagos–London Gatwick service on Friday after a routine post-boarding technical check identified a minor aircraft fault, the airline said in a press statement.
According to the carrier, the issue was detected after passengers had completed boarding.
In line with its safety protocols and global aviation standards, Air Peace said it withdrew the aircraft from service and safely disembarked all passengers.
“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew will always take precedence over operational schedules,” the airline stated.
It further noted that: “While we understand the inconvenience this situation may have caused, taking swift preventive action was the responsible and necessary decision.”
To manage the disruption, Air Peace said it immediately informed affected passengers and provided support, including hotel accommodation and other assistance to ensure their comfort.
The airline added that a replacement aircraft is being dispatched from London, with passengers rescheduled to depart this morning.
The incident underscores the growing emphasis on proactive safety checks in Nigeria’s aviation sector, where airlines have faced increased scrutiny over maintenance and operational reliability on long-haul routes.
Air Peace launched its Lagos–London Gatwick service in March 2024, marking a significant expansion for Nigerian carriers into the UK market.
The airline reiterated its commitment to delivering safe and reliable service, thanking passengers for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.
“Air Peace remains fully committed to delivering safe, reliable service at all times,” the statement read.
Passengers scheduled on the flight have been advised to check with the airline for updated departure times as the replacement aircraft is positioned for service.
