Airport apron safety: NCAA, NSIB urge vigilance

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have emphasized the importance of apron safety at airports, highlighting the risks of accidents and injuries.
Speaking at a workshop in Lagos, NCAA Director General Captain Chris Najomo stressed that apron safety requires continuous training, standard operating procedures, and collaboration among stakeholders. He cited incidents such as boarding passengers during fueling and pre-boarding crowding as hazards that compromise safety.
NSIB Director General Captain Badeh noted that apron safety is critical, with risks including collisions, jet blast, and foreign object debris ingestion. He emphasized the need for clear procedures, training, and communication.
The workshop aimed to strengthen safety in airport aprons, with participants urged to share experiences and commit to best practices.
