Ayegunle Ekiti Chiefs demand deposed monarch hand over regalia

Deposed Aderiye

The Chiefs in Council of Ayegunle Ekiti have issued a statement demanding that the deposed traditional head, Mr. Folorunsho Johnson Aderiye, submit all paraphernalia of office in his custody to the Secretary of the town for community access.

This move follows the completion of traditional rites leading to his dethronement on June 4, 2025, which terminated his 27-year reign.

The Chiefs, who signed the statement, include High Chief Ilesanmi Olugola, the Eesa of Ayegunle Ekiti and head of the kingmakers, High Chief Pius Ogunlusi, Eesinkin of Ayegunle Ekiti, High Chief Ayodele Omoniyi, the Odofin of Ayegunle Ekiti, High Chief Tubosun Arowolo, the Sajuku of Ayegunle Ekiti, and Chief Ojo Omokanju, the Eesaya of Ayegunle Ekiti.

The statement expressed the expectation that the deposed king would reciprocate the peaceful conduct of the dethronement exercise with a solemn handover of the regalia, in the interest of peace and tranquility in the community.

The Chiefs emphasised that peace and tranquility should be of paramount concern to all stakeholders.

The demand for the regalia is seen as a significant step in the transition process, and the Chiefs have urged the deposed monarch to comply with their request.

“This development has brought an end to Aderiye’s long reign, and the community is now expected to begin the process of selecting a new traditional head,” says High Chief Olugola.
