Nigeria’s aviation regulatory body, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has condemned the onboard row involving social media personalities VeryDarkman (Martins Otse) and Mr. Jollof (Freedom Atsepoyi), describing the incident as unacceptable and a violation of aviation safety rules.
Reacting to the development, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, said he became aware of the clash mid-flight after being tagged to a video of the altercation.
He said the authority is already seeking full details from its consumer protection officers, stressing that the behaviour displayed by both men who routinely preach responsible conduct to millions of followers—was disappointing and dangerous.
United Nigeria Airlines says the altercation occurred during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on Monday morning.
The airline said its crew acted immediately to de-escalate the situation, after which both passengers were deboarded and handed over to airport security in line with global aviation safety protocols.
Mr. Achimugu reaffirmed the NCAA’s zero-tolerance stance on unruly behaviour onboard aircraft, noting that the actions of both passengers endangered others and jeopardised flight safety.
He added that the airline is required to file an official report, which will guide further regulatory action.
The NCAA spokesperson warned that both individuals will face the full weight of the law, adding that there is no justification for conduct that threatens safety, irrespective of its cause.
