NSIB launches probe into Hawker 800XP incident at Kano airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has announced that it has opened a full investigation into a landing‑gear failure involving a Hawker 800XP aircraft (registration 5N‑ISB) at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State.

The aircraft, operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited, took off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday, 14 December 2025 at about 09:20 local time for a non‑scheduled domestic passenger flight to Kano.

Eight people were on board – two pilots, one cabin‑crew member and five passengers.

During the approach to Kano, the flight crew was said to have reported a landing‑gear indication anomaly and requested several low passes over the runway to allow air‑traffic controllers to verify the gear position visually.

Kano Tower confirmed on each pass that all three landing gears appeared fully extended and the aircraft then aligned for a landing on Runway 06 and touched down at approximately 10:34 local time.

Shortly after touchdown, the nose‑landing gear was said to have collapsed but all occupants were evacuated safely and no injuries were recorded.

Following the incident, NSIB had activated its Go‑Team and dispatched investigators to the site.

The agency assured that the probe wouldl cover aircraft systems, operational procedures, maintenance records and crew actions to determine the cause of the occurrence.

A statement released by Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, indicated that the Bureau emphasized that the investigation is “not conducted to apportion blame or liability, but to identify safety issues and prevent future occurrences.”

The agency pledged to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
