Mudashiru Obasa is back as the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, just a couple of months after being impeached in January 2025.
His impeachment was a result of allegations of gross abuse of office and corruption by lawmakers.
However, it seems that after a series of meetings with party leaders and intervention from the presidency, Obasa has regained his position.
This dramatic turn of events comes after Mojisola Meranda, who was elected to succeed Obasa, resigned earlier on Monday.
There are reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu wasn’t in support of Obasa’s impeachment and wanted to give him a soft landing, possibly by asking him to resign immediately after assuming office again.
Meanwhile, Mojisola Merida has assumed office as Deputy Speaker shortly after her announced resignation, signaling a return to status quo in the Lagos assembly
