Tinubu closes Ibadan airport

By Emmanuel Jimmy

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has announced the closure of the Samuel Ladoke Akinola Airport by the Federal Government.

FAAN stated that the Ibadan entry point was sanctioned for temporary closure by the Federal government for upgrade purpose.

The upgrade work, according to FAAN, is ongoing and is aimed at enhancing the airport’s facilities.

Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, hinted that the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), has closed both the runway and the airport itself in accordance with regulations set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Orah elaborated that this initiative is part of a broader effort by the Oyo State government to elevate Ibadan Airport from a domestic facility to an international one.

The upgrade involves various improvements and remodeling projects currently in progress.

She emphasized that adhering to aviation safety standards is paramount, making this closure necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel alike.

FAAN has requested understanding and cooperation from all airport users and stakeholders during this period, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining safe skies, secure airports, and seamless travel experiences.

The temporary closure of the airport is a strategic move aligned with ongoing upgrades aimed at enhancing its operational capacity while ensuring compliance with international safety standards.
