Activists rally behind Odumakin’s pro-people agenda

A group of human rights activists, led by Comrade Jubril Ogundimu, has paid a solidarity visit to Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, the 2012 International Women of Courage Award recipient, to express support for her tireless advocacy for good governance and human rights in Nigeria.

Ogundimu lauded Odumakin’s decades-long commitment to democratic ideals and urged her to continue speaking truth to power, stressing that her voice is crucial in holding the government accountable.

“Democracy can only thrive when there is good governance,” he said, adding that civil society must guard the democratic gains made and ensure the government prioritizes the welfare of the people.

The activists called for robust fiscal responsibility, transparency, and people-centered policies, emphasizing that Odumakin’s leadership is vital in the struggle for a better Nigeria.

Odumakin appreciated the group’s support and assured them of her continued dedication to promoting human rights and good governance.

Other activists, including Comrades Alex Omotehinse and Declan Ihekaire, also spoke, stressing the need for the ruling class to adopt pro-people policies.

The visit underscored the importance of collaboration between civil society and activists in pushing for a more accountable and responsive government.
