In a bid to take the passenger experience at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) to the next level, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) has embarked on a series of strategic engagement sessions with its airline partners.
The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and align its plans with anticipated traffic growth.
The engagement sessions, which kicked off with visits to United Nigeria Airlines, Aero Contractors, and ValueJet Airlines, provided a platform for in-depth discussions on operational performance during the December peak travel period and the implications for future growth.
The airline partners were unanimous in their call for terminal capacity upgrades, effective crowd management, and streamlined passenger processes to ensure seamless operations.
Responding to the concerns raised, Remi Jibodu, Ag. COO/Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services at BASL, outlined a raft of measures aimed at stabilizing operations and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
These include the deployment of mobile check-in counters to increase processing capacity during peak hours, strengthened crowd control, and additional manpower across security and baggage handling functions.
In the medium term, BASL plans to introduce an IATA-aligned slot coordination system, reintroduce self-check-in kiosks, implement apron decongestion measures, and upgrade baggage handling systems.
The company is also seeking the support of its airline partners for proposed slot guidelines, which are designed to be transparent, aligned with airlines’ revenue plans, and focused on delivering an excellent passenger experience.
Jibodu emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving the desired outcomes, stating that BASL is committed to continuous engagement with all stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and passenger-focused operations at MMA2.
The engagement sessions also covered the need for improved data transparency and coordinated communication, with discussions centered on developing a digital platform to provide real-time operational updates to airlines and other stakeholders.
Additionally, BASL is looking to strengthen partnerships with traffic management agencies to better coordinate road traffic during periods of high passenger influx to the terminal.
The company’s proactive approach to engaging with its airline partners underscores its commitment to delivering a superior passenger experience at MMA2, while supporting sustainable growth within the terminal’s operating environment.
As the BASL continues to work towards achieving its goals, passengers can look forward to a more efficient, convenient, and enjoyable travel experience.
