Group warns Yorubaland must not fall to fear, calls for unity against insecurity

Debo Adeniran

The Convener of Yoruba for Democratic Values, YDV, Debo Adeniran, has issued a strong warning that Yorubaland must not collapse under the weight of fear and internal division as insecurity spreads across the Southwest.

In a press statement released on behalf of YDV, Adeniran expressed “deep concern and rising apprehension” over growing kidnappings, violent attacks, and criminal infiltration in Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara and Yoruba-speaking areas of Kogi State.

He urged pan-Yoruba organisations, traditional institutions, youth groups, and political leaders to set aside differences and convene urgently for a coordinated regional security strategy.

Adeniran stressed that intelligence sharing, community vigilance, and lawful collaboration with security agencies must replace rhetoric and political grandstanding.

“History has repeatedly shown that internal divisions often create opportunities for external threats,” Adeniran said.

“The Yoruba nation must not collapse from within while its sons and daughters remain divided.”

YDV called on Yoruba political office holders to choose legacy over spectatorship, and on citizens to remain vigilant and lawful while resisting ethnic profiling.

Adeniran reaffirmed YDV’s commitment as a policy-driven think tank dedicated to the security, prosperity, and peaceful coexistence of Yoruba people at home and in the diaspora.
