An aircraft registered as 5N‑BZN suffered a nose‑wheel malfunction while landing at Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Thursday evening, November 20, 2025, triggering an immediate emergency response that resulted in the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew.

The incident occurred at about 7:10 pm when the Lagos‑bound flight touched down on Runway 08 and the nose‑landing gear failed, leaving the aircraft immobile on the runway.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that emergency teams were mobilised swiftly in line with standard safety protocols.

Fire tenders, medical personnel and other airport emergency units were dispatched to the scene to secure the aerodrome and protect those on board.

Passengers and crew were evacuated using apron buses and transported to the terminal without injury. The evacuation was completed by 7:48 pm.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, said in a statement that “the safety of passengers, crew and airport users remains our utmost priority.”

He added that the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) remained on standby to secure the aircraft and the affected part of the airside.

FAAN assured the public that further updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available.

The runway was temporarily closed while crews worked to remove the stranded aircraft, and normal operations are expected to resume once the situation is fully resolved.
