Kicks trail AGF Ogunjimi’s appointment

OgunjimiShamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, the newly appointed Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), has been embroiled in controversy bothering on incompetency  in view of his antecedents.

Findings revealed that the new AGF had been allegedly involved in questionable activities that put a doubt on his integrity and competence.

There are claims that the newly appointed Ogunjimi was once involved in a N2 billion police payroll fraud between 2011 and 2012, using eight bank accounts to warehouse funds linked to the fraud ¹.

Despite this spurious allegation, Ogunjimi was appointed as the AGF, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen Nigeria’s treasury management.

His appointment has raised eyebrows, particularly given that he came fourth in the examination for the selection of his current position as Accountant General, scoring 62 percent in the written examination ¹.

It is however worth noting that Ogunjimi has a strong professional background, with over three decades of experience in financial management across the public and private sectors.

But the allegations of fraud and his relatively low ranking in the examination have sparked concerns about his suitability for the role.
