Union bemoans murder of NURTW Lagos organising secretary, Toba Ajiboye

The Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN, Lagos State Branch has condemned the killing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye, Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Lagos State Council, describing it as a senseless act by “cowards.”

In a condolence message signed by the General Secretary/Chairman, Caretaker Committee of MOUN Lagos State,  Comrade Ade Ikuesan, the union said it received the news of Ajiboye’s sudden death “with great sadness but total submission to the will of God.”

The message, addressed to the State Chairman and members of NURTW Lagos State Council, extended the union’s heartfelt sympathies to the entire NURTW family over the loss.

“The news of his death came to us as a rude shock,” MOUN stated. “We pray that the Almighty God grants him eternal rest, gives his family, friends, and the entire NURTW family the strength to bear this painful loss, and the fortitude to endure this difficult moment.”

The union did not mince words in condemning the circumstances surrounding the death. The union called on security agencies to act swiftly to unravel those behind the killing.

“MOUN condemned the killing of Comrade Toba by the Cowards and called on the security agencies to do everything to identify the killer(s) and bring them to justice,” the statement read.

Comrade Ajiboye served as Organising Secretary of NURTW, Lagos State Council, a position that placed him at the center of the union’s mobilisation and member-welfare activities across the state. His death has sent shockwaves through transport unions in Lagos, with stakeholders describing him as a committed unionist.

The motorcycle operators’ body concluded its message with prayers for the repose of the deceased.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” Ikuesan wrote.

The killing adds to growing concerns over violence targeting transport union officials in Lagos. Community and union leaders are now urging law enforcement to prioritize the investigation and ensure those responsible are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.

As of press time, security agencies have not released details on suspects or arrests in connection with the incident.
