Yoruba for Democratic Values (YDV) has expressed concern over the security situation in Southwest Nigeria, citing intelligence reports of a planned attack on some states in the region.
In a statement signed by Debo Adeniran, the group urged residents of affected areas to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
“Security of lives and properties is a human right,” the statement read. “YDV is deeply concerned that the Southwestern part of the country is being infiltrated by bandits, with recent attacks on the National Park Service office in Oyo State.”
The group commended the Federal Government for collaborating with the US military to conduct airstrikes against terrorists in Sokoto State, but emphasized the need for adequate control of foreign forces intervening in the fight against terrorism.
YDV also called on the government to name sponsors of terrorism in the country and take action against them.
The group further urged the Ogun State government to repurpose abandoned properties, such as the Gateway Hotel, for the benefit of the state.
The statement highlighted concerns over the emergence of strange settlements in Yoruba lands, citing an example of Fulani settlers forcefully occupying land in Kogi State.
“This is a strange and strategic coincidence…it smells and tilts towards conscious maneuvers,” the statement said.
YDV also commended the Federal Government for strengthening Dangote refinery operations in the Southwest and expressed support for the establishment of state police, urging expedited constitutional actions for its realization.
